FireSafe Wildfire Alerts - August

As of September 27, 2023, CAL FIRE statistics indicate that 275,058 acres of land have been consumed by wildfires throughout California. These fires typically reach their peak during the summer season, with August witnessing some of the largest conflagrations of the year. Among these wildfires in 2023 is the Smith River Complex fire, located in Northwest California, which originated from a storm that triggered lightning strikes and evolved into a cluster of fires. It currently stands as the largest wildfire in the region, having devoured 94,508 acres.

FireSafe Wildfire Alerts

FireSafe is consistently leveraging its machine learning (ML) models to detect wildfires across California and issue timely alerts. This August, FireSafe’s models issued alerts for the August Lightning Fires that were ignited by lightning strikes within the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Additionally, the FireSafe models detected several smaller fires that were confirmed by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD):

  • On August 23, at 5:29 PM, the Los Angeles Fire Department issued a fire alert for the Hollywood Hills Brush Fire.

    At 6:09 PM, FireSafe issued its wildfire alert in the same area.

  • On August 21, at 1:14 PM, a fire was reported by LAFD.

    FireSafe issued an alert about the same fire incident.

  • On August 31, at 2:49 PM, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported a fire incident.

    At 3:08 PM, FireSafe issued a wildfire alert.
